My disc golf career began in June of 1993. A friend of mine that
was my ball-golf buddy was attending Oklahoma State University, and he
started playing at Boomer Lake. On a weekend that he was in town
he suggested going to play disc golf. Well I wasn't too sure about
it but after the first day I went out I was immediately hooked. I went
out and bought my first disc, a pink Shark. I played in my first mini
at Mack Taylor two weeks later where I shot a 67. The next event
was that weekend was 1993 Oklahoma State Championships. I showed
up there that Saturday morning not really sure if I want to pay ten dollars
to play. I didn't think I was quite ready for that. Well that
Sunday I walked away with over $100 in merchandise, and ever since that
I have been playing regularly. I played baseball in college so that
took up most of my time from 93-96 but after that I have been a full-time
disc golfer.
My first ace came in 1994 a day after me and my buddy/baseball teammate
Travis Mishler finished building my first pole hole. We built it
out of cattle panel, a pole out of the garbage, a tire rim and chains from
an abandoned swing set. That day I took the pole hole to the campus
before baseball practice and all the guys and coaches wanted to see what
this disc golf was all about. The other guys were throwing all my
discs and finally I stepped up with a Viper from about 200 feet away and
threw it right in the bucket.
My amateur tournament career was really short. I sandbagged in Novice
for 4 tournaments and collected 4 wins. The problem was that I was playing
baseball in College so I only got to play tournaments for the 3 summer
months I wasn't in school. I played in one tourney as a Am and that
was Haikey Creek and I won by 10 so they told me I couldn't play Am anymore.
Alex Gonzales picked me up for a partner for Okie Doubles as Adv.
I didn't feel I was ready for Advanced yet but I was wrong. We got
third, 1 stroke from tying for the win. I played about 7 tournaments as
an Advanced winning 5 of them. My first Pro tournament was in November
of 1995 at the Riverside Glide. It was one year after I won it as
a Novice. I trailed by 4 strokes going into the last round and I shot a
42 to come back and get the win.

People
always ask me how many aces I have and to tell you the truth I have no
idea. If you held a gun to my head and asked me to spit out a number,
I would think it is around 80 or 85. I do know that I have 14 aces
on hole #2 at McClure and that is liable to change from day to day.
The last time I aced hole 2 was on 11/21/00. I also have 11 aces
on hole #1 at Chandler. I know that I have a total of 24 aces at
McClure. 23 of them are on the front nine and 1 on the back, now
that is weird. My highest paying ace was for $599 at Haikey Creek
hole #13. Some of my highlight aces, hole #13 at Kilbourne Park at
the 1997 World Championships. It was part of a course record -13 and it
was a blind skip ace. Never saw it just heard it. Most of my aces are with
Roc's but the MRX is approaching fast, especially since I have "ole yeller".
It has had 4 aces and several shots that have gone in from over 100 feet.
All within 4 months. Actually in my bag right now I have 3 MRX's and they
have a total of 8 aces on them alone, to go with the 2 MRV's that have
4 aces together. Black X2's seem to go in often also. My last ace
was with a black X2. My $599 ace that was followed up with another ace
4 days later on hole 17 at Dovillio was with the same black X2.
